Somewhere on the Outside

So leave your conscience at the door
It’s not important anymore
To take the time to contemplate
The thoughts of those less fortunate
The ones who follow like the blind
So sorry but they’re not our kind
If we’d embrace community
A thinner slice for you and me

But I’m somewhere on the outside
Watching this world go by
And somewhere on the outside
Up against this turning tide
It’s amazing what you see when you open your eyes
Like another world full of surprise
Still I’m on the outside looking in

So do not think or speak of greed
For we all have ourselves to feed
If we don’t stretch the others might
And then we’d starve and out of sight
We’d tumble down and hide our face
Resort to catch up in the race
A bruise upon our dignity
A scar we’d hope they’d never see

As we’d regroup and reinvent and tell the world of our intent
To dominate and always be examples of society
