Blog:
12 September 2005
Hullo everyone!
Well, I've finally found the time to blog and I'm just not sure where to start!
It has been an adventurous year to say the least! Last June I said ‘farewell’ to the lovely pupils and teachers of Williamwood High School to pursue stardom status...well, in my dreams anyway. More seriously though, this has been the start of wee experiment in following your dream for a while and—so far so good!
At the beginning of the year I managed to get back into the studio with a bunch of fledging songs, lots of hot honey and lemon, some lovely musicians and the production talents of Graeme Duffin and Sandy Jones. We got there in the end and I’m more than chuffed with how it’s sounding. I hope you like the new tunes.
I love to hear from folk so please let me know what you think—what you really, really think—well—actually don’t—just be nice! (eek! how I hate that word!)
Gig-wise, I’ve had some great opportunities to play support for outstanding musicians and writers. In May, DL and I played an acoustic set to a sell out crowd for Steve Forbert at The Tron in Glasgow. June saw us supporting Mark Erelli from Boston at Brookfield and then (the jewel in the crown for me!) supporting Patti Griffin at Oran Mor as part of The West End Festival. There should be some photos up on site to prove it!
I've had some radio play on BBC Scotland too! Iain Anderson has been very kindly plugging ‘Colours’ and saying some ‘nice’ things about it. Ta!
I spent two and a half weeks in Romania during the summer working with Life To Romania (my 10th summer now!) and catching up with some old friends. What a brilliant time and great memories! It was sorely needed on my part just to put life back into perspective again!
August as always brings the magic of the Edinburgh Festival and it was a real privilege to be a part of it this year. We got to support another group of fantastic people, The Duhks from Canada as well as supplying some ‘real folk music’ (i.e no PA whatsoever!) at The Royal Oak Pub as part of Folk at the Oak, hosted by David Ferrard—really good fun!
Lastly we managed to get down to Cheltenham race course for Greenbelt Festival. Had a slot at the performance café and talked to millions of people not least, my old mate Juliet Turner, Karine Polwart and Charlie from The Proclaimers!! (well, DL got to talk to him—about football as you would expect!)
And so to the month of September! Autumn is definitely my favourite season although I do lament that the summer sandal season seems now to be over! In with the leaf and conker kicking boots! Looking forward to a wee holiday in Skye and then some serious plugging of the album!
Cheers for reading and listening!
